Usually the day's update begins with a description of our time getting up and eating and then going out. But today I thought you might appreciate a different perspective on our trip. Yes, we got up and ate breakfast and departed for the Orly Airport for Roma. It was uneventful and smooth and on time and our private driver met us and transported us to Hotel Napoleon in Rome.
The travelers really like this hotel because...are you ready...it has Air Conditioning. Your students have learned that sometimes Americans just may be a "little" spoiled in the way we take certain things for granted...like Air Conditioning. They made this observation and conclusion totally on their own. I'm proud that they're looking around and taking EVERYTHING in. Nothing goes unnoticed. Then again, that's what this trip is all about. Learning and Experiencing and Understanding new things.
Our schedule today is light light light. Basically we checked in, had a snack, took a short walk to see the Colosseum from a distance and then back to the hotel to rest before dinner. Dinner is now over and we're all back home ready for bed. See - I told you it was Uneventful.
What I really want to take this opportunity to tell you is something you may not know...did you know Ms. Armstrong has planned devotions for us for every day of the trip? It's the last thing we do before bedding down for the night. We've had thought provoking discussions and earnest prayers from all of your travelers. I should have told you this earlier, and I'm sorry I unintentionally omitted it. What a sweet time we have every night. Did I tell you on the very first morning in London I went down to the breakfast room before anybody else so I could be there to show them the routine? Two of the guys were the first down to eat. The first thing they did was hold hands and have a blessing of their food. I was totally blown away, but I tried not to look too obvious...these two big strapping football players unabashedly praying in public sure put me in my place of reckoning. This group of kids laughs together and jokes together and prays together and supports each other. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to get to know them! They are a wonderful bunch and a blessing. I'm going to leave you today with just a few photos of our experiences.
Tomorrow is when we begin our first big day of information processing for Rome. We're excited to go INSIDE the Colosseum - not just see it from the outside. We're going to see Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps (personally don't know why this place is so special but it obviously is), then over to the Vatican Museum for our official guided tour of the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel. We'll see lots of places along the way but those are the major highlights. We're all doing well so don't worry at all! Good night from Rome.
Oh wait a minute...just one more picture before I go:
Yep, he ate the WHOLE thing! The head, the tail and everything in between ;-) Special prayers tonight for Logan and Cooper (his roommates).
